Ratafia
- Grape Variety: Montepulciano
- Volume: 500ml
Ratafia, is a typical fortified wine of the Abruzzo region combining the strength of Montepulciano DOP wine with the sour scent of black cherries.
The history of the Toro Distillery is inextricably linked to that of its Centerba Forte liqueur. In 1817 Beniamino Toro began his activity as a liqueur producer in his pharmacy in Tocco da Casauria, a town in the Abruzzo part of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The pharmacist, originally from Cansano, had moved to Tocco da Casauria at the beginning of the 19th century to carry out his business; it is here that in all likelihood his destiny crossed with that of the centerba, an extract of herbs, a legacy left to the territory by the monks of the nearby Benedictine abbey of San Clemente a Casauria.
The Casauria Distillery is located at the beginning of the Tremonti Gorges, formed by the last offshoots of the Gran Sasso and those of Mount Morrone, that is, in the stretch of the Tiburtina Valeria state road that runs alongside the town of Tocco da Casauria.
The aromatic and healthy herbs, which are used to produce and characterize the liqueurs and distillates of this factory, are collected on the mountains that overlook it but above all on Mount Morrone which is the backdrop to the plateau on which Tocco da Casauria stands, the extreme edge of the province of Pescara.
