Marco Caprai's took over the family winery in 1989, his goal was to experiment with new varietals and techniques which would best suit to the region. His efforts didn't go unnoticed and Marco was named "Best Italian Producer of the Year" in 2001, then in 2006 the Caprai winery was named "Winery of the Year" by Gambero Rosso.

The Gambero Rosso Wine Guide is considered the Bible of Italian wines. For the 2007 guide, a panel of wine experts tasted 16,000 wines from over 2000 Italian Wineries and awarded just 282 wines the top accolade of 'Tre Bicchieri'.
