Alto Adige Terlaner Cuvee Classico

A composition of Terlano’s three most traditional white varieties, namely Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon, this old cuvée, which was one of the wines produced when the winery was founded, is an extremely complex wine. Pinot Bianco, as the main variety used in the cuvée, provides the freshness and a good acid structure, while Chardonnay delivers a pleasing warmth and mellowness and Sauvignon adds the fine aromatic character.

Nose

Green apple and white peach combine with fine nuances of lemon balm and mint to create the typical aroma of the classic Terlano.

Palate

Peach is very strong on the palate, lending the Terlano its lively but at the same time very mellow character. The multifaceted, well structured flavor derives from an interplay of freshness and minerality and also has a wonderfully persistent finish.

A traditional regional choice with Terlano wine soup, raw white asparagus salad, typical dishes like pizza and pasta with tomato sauce or foccaccia with rosemary or penne all'arrabbiata; parmesan and fresh pecorino; also with South Tyrolean dishes like bacon dumplings or sausage with sauerkraut, and with turkey breast with root vegetables or a fine veal roast.

Aging on the lees in steel tanks for 5-7 months; blending one month before bottling.

"Winkl has been produced as a varietal wine since 1956. It is a succulent, delicately fruity Sauvignon Blanc made from grapes grown in the very center of Terlano. This location, where Terlano’s earliest wineries were established, is one of the region’s oldest wine-growing sites and is known to have been used for that purpose by the Romans and the Rhaetians."

Nose

The multifaceted aroma of this wine derives from a combination of ripe fruit, including honeydew melon, white peach, pear and Golden Delicious apple. Aromas of quince jelly and dried fruit such as pear, orange and pineapple, on the one hand, and graphite notes and a hint of jasmine with a mineral touch on the other.

Palate

The interplay of fruity aromatic and salty components is repeated on the palate, where the soft and creamy elements gain greater strength in a wine with a lingering, firmly minerally and spicy character on the aftertaste.

Ideal in combination with a spicy fish soup, mussels in a pepper sauce and spaghetti allo scoglio as well as mussels au gratin, grilled ink fish and poached char; also one of the few good combinations with artichokes alla romana; excellent with mature Pecorino, a mature Parmesan and mostarda, and Tête de Moine.

Nose

This Lagrein selection is a multifaceted wine. It reveals aromas reminiscent of morello cherry and bilberry, with notes of licorice, coffee beans, vanilla, clove and black tea, which makes it spicy and fruity at the same time.

Harmonious on the palate with very compact and concentrated, multilayered flavors combining juicy fruit with spicy, peppery elements and a slightly sweet note of dark chocolate rounded off with silky tannins.

The Gewurtztraminer "Lunare" is the intense, full-bodied expression of South Tyrolean Gewurztraminer, aged for 12 months in barrel. It is a rich and complex aromatic white wine, with notes of exotic fruits, herbs and ginger in evidence, diluted by mineral and spicy whiffs. As soon as it is poured into the glass, the Lunare shows itself in a deep yellow guise. The nose is a profluent of exotic fruit and citrus, among which lychee and grapefruit stand out sharply, and refreshing hints of candied ginger and rose petals. The palate is a pure explosion of aromaticity, entering mightily and caressing the palate by virtue of a persuasive and caressing tactility. Long persistent finish, dragged along by a savoury trace that enlivens the drink.

It is their individual terroir that make the wines of Terlano so remarkable. Each wine is produced from grapes grown on tiny plots of land owned by the many grape growers that make up the cooperative of Cantina Terlano. The production zone for this alluring Pinot Noir in the tiny Hamlet of Monticol begins at 1,475 feet ASL and climbs to more than 2,125 feet ASL Here the easy draining heat retentive soil and the warm days and cool nights provide ideal conditions to produce the demanding Pinot Nero grape. Monticol is aged 12 months in large oak casks (50%) and small barriques (50%).

This particular wine of the Terlano winery is produced with Lagrein grapes one of the most important vine of the Trentino Alto Adige. It has an aromatic taste with soft tannins which makes it appreciable more and more. This vine is original from Bolzano but since many decades it is cultivated also at Terlano. This wine is produced with 100% Lagrein grapes and the wine has the DOC Alto Adige certification.The Lagrein DOC of the Terlano Winery has a garnet and dark red color. The bouquet is rich of marasca cherry aromas enriched by a floral scent of lilac and cooked bay tree. There are also some flint and chocolate hints. The taste is aromatic with a delicate structure and a refined tannin which give fullness to the wine.
