Winner of 10 Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Awards
Since publishing giant Paolo Panerai took over Castellare di Castellina in 1980, the estate has gone from strength to strength. Using environmentally-friendly cultivation practices - Panerai has banned the use of herbicides and pesticides in cultivation - Castellare di Castellina is thriving, winning 10 Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Awards. Most famous for its Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, Sodi di San Niccolò, and Vin Santo ('holy wine'), the estate's commitment to the environment is reflected in its wine labels which depict a different endangered bird each year.

The Gambero Rosso Wine Guide is considered the Bible of Italian wines. For the 2007 guide, a panel of wine experts tasted 16,000 wines from over 2000 Italian Wineries and awarded just 282 wines the top accolade of 'Tre Bicchieri'.
