He was among the first wine makers in the region to travel to other winemaking areas like Burgundy in an effort to improve his own wine making processes.

The Gambero Rosso Wine Guide is considered the Bible of Italian wines. For the 2007 guide, a panel of wine experts tasted 16,000 wines from over 2000 Italian Wineries and awarded just 282 wines the top accolade of 'Tre Bicchieri'.
