Cafe Di Stasio has recently passed its 25th birthday, a lifetime in restaurant years, and yet the quality of this long-time Melbourne favourite is as relevant as the day it opened.

The dining room gains its name from owner Ronnie Di Stasio, who reportedly greets each and every guest to his restaurant by way of bronze door handles that are rumoured to be casts of his own hands.

Upon entry, it’s clear that this restaurant is of the old-world, with carpeted floors and linen tablecloths, waiters in white jackets and intimate mood lighting. The classic decor is no indication of a dated menu, with the proudly Italian fare on offer respectful of tradition while staying fresh. The favourites are all there: suckling pig, roast duck, veal saltimbocca, with enough new creations, like a pigeon and spiced cherry pie, to keep thing interesting.

Dessert doesn’t miss a beat, and with dolci like the white chocolate, pistachio and mascarpone tart, your sweet tooth will be happily satisfied.

The well-executed wine list showcases a powerhouse cellar with an impressive focus on Italian producers.

Highly recommended is the popular set-lunch of two courses and wine, with dishes that change with the seasons and give you an insight into the full Di Stasio experience.

Next door, Bar Di Stasio was added in more recent times and is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner drink or a post-dinner digestive.

Alternatively, you could find yourself spending the entire evening here, enjoying expertly presented cocktails and a bar menu that includes what might just be the best fritto misto to be found anywhere.

Arquilla is proud to partner with Di Stasio, one of the great restaurant spaces of Melbourne with a long and illustrious past and definitely an even longer future ahead of it.
