During our stay in Italy for Vinitaly 2014, we attended the presentation of Vecchie Vigne at Frescobaldi's Castello di Nipozzano.
The castle on the property has been an ancient stronghold of Florence since the year 1000 and is the most celebrated and historic property of the Frescobaldi family. The word Nipozzano means “without a well” - a nod to the area's lack of water which create an ideal environment for the cultivation of grapevines.
During the evening we were treated to a performance of traditional Italian flag-throwing. An ancient art, flag-throwing dates back to medieval guilds, when a guild's banner was considered a symbol of purity and was not allowed to touch the ground
