Pio Cesare is the Piemonte producer founded in 1881 by the late Cesare Pio, great-grandfather of the now owner, Pio Boffa. Among the first wineries to produce and bottle its own wines, the family-owned winery continues to make traditional wines in its old cellars today, which date back to the Roman Empire period, 50 BC.
The Pio Cesare family has now owned and operated the 170 acres of vineyards for five generations. Arquilla’s relationship with the winemakers continues today with a cross-continental friendship between Pio Boffa and Arquilla’s General Manager, Maurizio Ugge’.
Late last month we welcomed Pio Boffa to Melbourne, where he was a special guest of Festa del Barolo. The five-day event from July 25 to 29 hosted a collection of Australia’s most revered importers of Italian wine. Each night explored a different region with wines and cuisine served to an exclusive audience of only 40 customers.
The evening dedicated to Pio Cesare included a five-course meal accompanied by the entire range of new releases and included the heralded Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato 2010.
The wines served during the evening were:
Pio Cesare Gavi 2014
Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba 2013
Pio Cesare Barbera d'Alba Fides 2011
Pio Cesare Barbaresco 2012
Pio Cesare Barbaresco Il Bricco 2010
Pio Cesare Barolo 2011
Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato 2010
