This year’s San Francisco World Spirits Competition saw amazing success for Janneau Armangnac winning the Double Gold Medal for Best in Show Brandy/ Best in Show Armagnac, as well as the Gold medal for the V.S.O.P and the silver medal for the 12 Y.O.
Aged in French Oak casks from Limousin for 18 to 35 years, the Janneau Armagnac XO Royal 18 Years, achieved the highest honors in the category receiving a Double Gold Medal impressing the judges with its luxurious palate. In total, Janneau picked up a five medals overall, a tribute to their outstanding and uncompromising quality.
Now in its 16th year, the annual event is the more influential and largest competition in the world. Taking place at Hotel Nikko between March 17 and March 20, the competition saw a record-breaking number of competitors took part with over 1,800 entries, a promising increase from the previous year.
Thirty-nine industry experts convened to judge the competition with many returning from previous years. Amongst them were noted spirits writer and author David Wondrich; Writer and photographer Richard Carleton Hacker; Master mixologist Dale DeGroff; and Tony Abou-Ganim (aka the Modern Mixologist) serving as Director of Judging for his seventh year.
Since its inception in 2000, the San Francisco World Spirits Competitionis the most influential in the industry.
“Winning a medal here is very meaningful," said competition director Anthony Dias Blue.
"We have the industry's most respected experts serving as judges, and every entry is blind-tasted under highly focused conditions. There is no better way to discern quality and identify trend.”
Sprits Educator, Stephen Beal has judged the competition since it’s beginnings and believes the best palates in the world come to this competition.
“We have a mixture of technical experts, historians, bartenders, and industry
professionals. Every panel is very interesting and every product
gets its own special look from several perspectives.
“This is why if you win a Double Gold or Best in Class award here, you can become an internationally acclaimed brand,” said Mr Beal.
