Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s 2012 Wine Star Awards has named the Arnaldo Caprai winery—pioneer and leader in the production of top quality Sagrantino wines—'European Winery of the Year’.
“The innovative Arnaldo Caprai Winery has helped revive Umbria’s indigenous grapes, bringing the wine region into the international spotlight for its production of Sagrantino di Montefalco,” said Wine Enthusiast Publisher and Editor, Adam Strum.
In 1989 Marco Caprai partnered with the University of Milan to explore the previously neglected Umbrian varietal, Sagrantino.
The collaboration and support of top local winemakers and colleagues transformed the unknown indigenous grape into an enological phenomenon.
For over a decade, the Arnaldo Caprai winery has been celebrated consistently winning 17 Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Awards, “Best Italian Producer of the Year” and Gambero Rosso's “Winery of the Year”.
The prestigious Wine Star Award is further testament to the premium wine and passion for production that has emerged from the small Italian town of Montefalco.
Marco Caprai and his team will proudly receive the Award in New York late January 2013 at the Wine Enthusiast Gala Dinner.
